Where a door entry system and a mailing system is required at the same location, it can be convenient to house the door entry system within the mailbox system thereby saving space and cost and resulting in an aesthetically pleasing solution.

Most proprietary door entry systems can be accommodated within our mailboxes but the most space effective method would be to use our supplied components to create a system which is designed and sized to suit the mailbox.

As a result of the infinite variations of requirements, i.e. number of push buttons, audio and/or video requirements, door release systems etc that our technical sales team can provide the customer with a drawing of the finished layout upon receipt of full specification and requirements.

Push Buttons

Push buttons can be integrated into door entry systems so specific codes can be entered into the system to gain access to the property or contact a resident.

Push buttons can be illuminated to meet Disability Discrimination Act requirements (more on the DDA below) with either a halo circle surrounding the button or in a continuous colouring.

Audio

A variety of audio systems can be integrated into door entry systems to allow for complete communication between the user of the system and the resident.

Audio systems available include telephone, button audio tones and digital display systems with integrated microphones.

Video

A variety of audio systems can be integrated into door entry systems to allow for complete communication between the user of the system and the resident.

Audio systems available include telephone, button audio tones and digital display systems with integrated microphones.

The Door Entry Systems provided by The Safety Letterbox Company are based on the COM 3 mailbox product combined with a panel feature that can be customised to suit the opening that has been allocated for a door entry / mailbox combination.

There are no standard dimensions for this product and a solution is created on a project by project basis.

Door Entry Systems are situated to the side of the property entrance door and are designed to meet the requirements of the final part of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). The DDA requires service providers and landlords to consider making reasonable adjustments to the physical feature of their premises to overcome physical barriers to access.

The DDA states that “a disabled person cannot be restricted from gaining access to a site to obtain ‘goods or services’”. This includes people using wheelchairs, blind or partially sighted people, deaf people, people with arthritis, people with learning disabilities and people with long-term illnesses. This consideration will obviously have an impact on the design and installation of door entry systems and these issues must be considered when developing a building.

DOOR ENTRY SYSTEMS FOR THE PARTIALLY SIGHTED;
Options are available with our sourced door entry systems to incorporate high-visibility halo rings surrounding the buttons. Other options include permanently illuminated buttons, braille characters and the use of an audio tone for indication of a lock release function.

DOOR ENTRY SYSTEMS FOR THE ‘HARD OF HEARING’;
Door Entry Systems can utilise a variety of visual prompts to indicate such items as ‘Speak Now’ when a call to a property has been answered and a ‘Door Open’ when the property door lock has been released.

DOOR ENTRY SYSTEMS FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS;
Panels that incorporate Door Entry Systems and mailboxes are designed so that they can be easily used at different heights to meet the needs of every particular user.

DOOR ENTRY SYSTEMS FOR RESIDENT OR EMPLOYEE FACILITIES;
A variety of features are available to incorporate into the Door Entry Systems such as keypad entry for resident access and CCD camera video security.

As suggested in the Secured by Design Homes 2019 guide, part of the SBD initiative is to ensure the protection of both persons and property on virtually any property. Products that are compliant with the Secured by Design Homes 2019 guide features that have been developed with a security focus as the main priority.

A bank of heavy duty mailboxes (with the option of fitting a gap restrictor to reduce the mail aperture size) plus anti vandal push buttons and door entry system, can provide even the most vulnerable of locations with a secure and durable solution. Entry is restricted to only authorised personnel providing a solution that will withstand the most challenging of locations.
